Review: GEPRC Cinelog25 V2 – Compact Cinewhoop Available in DJI O3

by Oscar
Geprc Cinelog25 V2 Cinewhoop

The GEPRC Cinelog25 V2 is an upgraded 2.5-inch cinewhoop, not a complete overhaul but a refinement of the original. It’s now equipped with DJI O3, allowing this drone to capture 4K images at up to 120fps in 10-bit D-log, either stabilized in real-time or post-production with gyroscope data. It’s versatile, supporting a 4S battery (ranging from 660 to 850 mAh) for a flight time of 4 to 6 minutes and is capable of carrying a small action camera.

Key Features and Upgrades

The main upgrade of the Cinelog25 V2 would be the DJI O3. I don’t think it needs much introduction as it’s currently one of the best FPV systems out there for cinematic flying, known for its superior image quality and robust video link. The price point is on the higher side though, around $524, but you can opt for cheaper versions like the Runcam Link Wasp and analog version.

The drone features newly designed battery cases with aluminum standoffs, grommet sizing for adding a GoPro, and SpeedX 1404 4500KV motors.

Build Quality and Design

The Cinelog25 V2 boasts a robust build, with 2-2mm thick carbon fiber. The motor post-to-motor measurement is approximately 114mm. One notable design feature is the foam wrapping around the edges, which comes with an extra set for replacements.

The Cinelog25 V2 isn’t just about flying; it’s built for cinema. It offers GPS options and a new strap system for securing the battery. Access to components like the receiver and the USB-C port is straightforward, making maintenance and updates hassle-free.

Flight Performance

The Cinelog25 V2 performed admirably in both slow, steady flights and more aggressive maneuvers. It offers a balanced and responsive flying experience, with the quad-bladed props contributing to its efficiency. The drone’s weight distribution and propeller design allow for agile and stable flights, making it suitable for various flying styles.

The thicker frame and propeller guards provide added protection against impacts. However, it seems the material used is similar to the original Cinelog25, which raises questions about its robustness in more aggressive flying scenarios. Anyway, the drone’s modular design makes it relatively easy to replace parts or perform repairs if needed.

The recommended battery is a 4S 660mah to 850mah. You can expect about 4 minutes of flight time from a 4S 660mah, while a 4S 850mA can give you roughly 6 minutes. The inclusion of a rubberized battery mat and textured battery straps ensures a secure hold during flights.

Final Thoughts

The GEPRC Cinelog25 V2 with DJI O3 is a well-rounded cinewhoop that offers a decent flying experience and high-quality footage. Its versatility, durability, and user-friendly design make it a great option for anyone looking to explore aerial cinematography or simply enjoy flying a drone close to subjects. Whether you’re capturing cinematic shots or navigating tight spaces, the Cinelog25 V2 proves to be a enjoyable companion in the sky that’s under 250g. It’s a solid release from GEPRC, but the durability of the prop guards might be a concern for aggressive flying.

For those seeking a bit more durability, power, and versatility, and don’t mind the extra weight, I recommend considering the larger Cinelog35 models, they’re faster and can carry a bigger camera or battery.

I bought this little quad directly from GEPRC with Crossfire and the GEPRC Nano GPS. It handles nicely and the O3 footage is the best from any of my quads. I’m having to wait about 5 minutes to get 5 satellites locked and the gps hovers between 4 & 5 sats after that for several minutes. After flying 3 batteries, I finally had 12 sats. Is that as good as I can expect from a nano gps or is it possibly defective somehow?

Al, placing the GPS next to the Rx/VTX antenna is a design flaw in my view.
